“The best things in life aren't things.”
                                     — Art Buchwald

Welcome to the winter issue of Westside Notes. I write to you from chilly Southern California—our version of winter with days in the 50s and nights in the 30s. Having lived in New England during college, our weather really doesn't compare, but through the years my blood seems thinner so I wear scarves and turtlenecks and enjoy the chill in the air. I also have a theory that buildings are not as well-insulated in L.A. leaving us more vulnerable to the elements, but either way, I hope you're staying warm and enjoying the first month of 2013.

The Bridge to Recovery
Weekend Intensive Workshop:
External Dependency
March 15-17, 2013

As most of you know, I've been collaborating with The Bridge to Recovery (www.thebridgetorecovery.com) and will be co-facilitating their inaugural weekend intensive workshop to be held in Santa Barbara. Rawly Glass, LCSW will be leading the weekend with me and my two associates, Eddie Hunt, M.A. and Annabel Raymond, M.A. We're super excited to be launching this series, and would love to speak with you if you have any questions. Group Therapy News

I've been asked to be part of the faculty for the 2-day course entitled "Principles of Group Psychotherapy" on February 9 & 10 in Venice. Because an esteemed colleague of mine is currently on medical leave, I'll be substituting for him, and I feel privileged to be included with some of the most seasoned group therapists in our organization. Not only is the course a prerequisite to become a Certified Group Psychotherapist but it's also a valuable training for group therapists of all levels. For more details, click here. As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, I'll be attending the American Group Psychotherapy Association (www.agpa.org) 2013 Annual Meeting entitled "Overcoming Obstacles: The Power of the Group" from February 25 — March 2 in New Orleans. It's always a very powerful and rejuvenating week for me, and I'd be happy to speak with anyone who would like more information.
